Americans may feel a little burned out on politics at the moment, but it’s a safe bet millions will eagerly tune in to the “Yellowstone” Season 5 premiere Sunday (Nov. 13), to see John Dutton (Kevin Costner) take on his new role as the governor of Montana.
(“Yellowstone” Season 5 will premiere at 8 p.m. with two back-to-back episodes Sunday, Nov. 13, on the Paramount Network. You can stream Seasons 1-4 on Peacock. Don’t have cable? “Yellowstone,” a contemporary Western co-created by Taylor Sheridan, has become a huge hit, with ratings that earned it the status of most popular entertainment show on cable TV. So, anticipation will be high for Season 5, which begins with two back-to-back episodes, which are titled, respectively, “One Hundred Years Is Nothing,” and “The Sting of Wisdom.”
True to form, members of the Dutton family are as trouble-prone as ever. John, patriarch of the clan and head of a vast Montana ranching empire, isn’t a natural fit for politics, despite his newly elected status. John’s goal, as he makes clear, is to preserve the land -- notably his own Yellowstone ranch -- and protect it from rich outsiders from California, New York and the like, who want to turn Montana into their own personal playground.
John’s daughter, Beth (Kelly Reilly), is every bit as fiercely protective of the Dutton’s ranch, which puts her into conflict with Market Equities, and the big city types who have come to Montana to try and build an airport and sprawling development on the pristine land.

And speaking of conflict, John’s adopted son, Jamie (Wes Bentley) finds himself under the thumb of Beth, because of what Jamie did last season (we won’t spoil it, just in case you’re still catching up with the Season 4 finale). Jamie doesn’t seem very happy with swallowing his own political ambitions, and carrying water for John and Beth. How long will this uneasy situation continue? We’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, the Season 5 premiere also brings back Luke Grimes as Kayce, Cole Hauser as Rip, Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater, Kelsey Asbille as Monica, Jacki Weaver as Caroline, the bunkhouse gang, and more.
“Yellowstone” Season 5 premieres with two back-to-back episodes, at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, on the Paramount Network.
