The Walking Dead is full of spinoffs, and at least one of them, Dead City, is going to the city that never sleeps. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan and Lauren Cohan as Maggie, two of The Walking Dead’s most popular characters, will go all the way to New York City in Dead City. Find out what we know about the cast and how to watch the next Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City.
Dead City hasn’t been given a date yet. However, the show’s first episode will likely air in April 2023. In the summer of 2022, Morgan posted a script for the show on Instagram to show that the show was already being made.
A sequel to The Walking Dead Michonne, Rick Gurira, Danai Abraham Lincoln Three spinoffs involving significant characters from The Walking Dead’s main series is in the works for the near future. The Walking Dead: Dead City, a New York-based adaptation originally dubbed Isle of the Dead, will star Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan, and Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Although supporting cast members have been revealed, none of them is well-known from the current iteration of The Walking Dead, and it is still unclear whether Hershel and Annie will accompany Maggie and Negan.
Norman Reedus will lead Daryl Dixon. The project was moved to Europe, which precluded Melissa McBride’s Carol from participating. The spinoff was initially planned to star Daryl alongside Carol. Most Daryl Dixon will take place in France, and Clémence Poésy, who starred in Tenet and Harry Potter, will have a supporting role. Finally, Rick Grimes and Michonne will return in their TV series after Andrew Lincoln, and Danai Gurira left The Walking Dead in seasons 9 and 10, respectively. Lincoln’s return was once anticipated through a trilogy of Walking Dead films, but those plans fell apart like soggy zombie intestines and transformed into another TV project.
There isn’t a trailer for Dead City yet. But AMC has put out a poster for the show showing the Lincoln Tunnel entrance in New York City. The tunnel is blocked off and covered with warnings about the walker apocalypse, such as “DON’T OPEN DEAD INSIDE,” which may be familiar to fans of the series. You can see parts of the New York City skyline and two people walking away to the left of the picture. Overgrown weeds and ivy, potholes (which, to be fair, some New Yorkers may say are expected, depending on the borough and neighbourhood), and a generally dirty, dingy vibe make it clear that the city is in bad shape.
In April 2023, AMC will show the first episode of Dead City. You will also be able to stream the show on AMC+, but it hasn’t been said yet if AMC+ subscribers will get early access to Isle of the Dead like they do with new episodes of The Walking Dead.
