Tragic weekend in London as boy, 4, hit by car, man dies in horror hit and run and person struck by train

The capital experienced a busy weekend of crime and tragedy with four major accidents, three stabbings and one train casualty. With a four year old boy being in a critical condition in hospital following being hit by a car in South West London.

London started the weekend with a stabbing in Poplar where a man was found with knife wounds on Friday (January 20) night. In a separate incident in Croydon, on Saturday afternoon, two men checked themselves into hospital after being stabbed.

On Saturday night a man died in a hit and run and on Sunday morning a four year old boy was hit by a car outside Wimbledon station. MyLondon has compiled a round up of all the significant events from this weekend.

Man, 30, stabbed in Poplar

A man was found with knife wounds in East London on Friday night (January 20) while another was attacked with broken glass. Emergency services rushed to Oban Street, Poplar at 10.43pm to reports of a stabbing.

One man in his 30s was found with an injury to his hand, believed to have been caused by broken glass. He was arrested by police at the scene.

A second man in his 30s was found in Abbott Road with stab injuries. The residential streets are approximately a seven-minute walk from each other, although it has not been made clear why the men were found in separate locations.

Two men check themselves into hospital after being stabbed

Two men checked themselves in to a Croydon hospital after being stabbed on Saturday (January 21) after being stabbed. The victims, 21 and 20, were assessed by doctors and informed that their injuries were not life threatening.

Police attended the hospital after receiving a call at 2.33pm that two men had attended with stab wounds.

Man dies after hit and run with bus

On Saturday night (January 21) a man died after a hit and run with a bus in Hounslow. The man, 40, was admitted to hospital suffering serious injuries following the 'horror' incident, staff called police but the man shortly died.

The bus driver involved, a 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail.

M40 horror crash that kills two

Two further people died in an accident on the M40, where an eight vehicle crash, involving 14 people occurred. The incident happened near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire at around 8.15am yesterday (January 22) morning.

Police say that the families of the two deceased, in their 60s and 70s respectively, have been informed following the collision. 12 people sustained injuries. Two fo whom were taken to hospital with 'serious injuries', the other 10 sustained 'minor' injuries.

Child, 4, hit by car in Wimbledon

A four-year-old boy remains in a 'potentially life threatening condition' after being hit by a car outside of Wimbledon train station on Sunday morning. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to determine how the collision occurred.

Person hit by a train in South West London

Yesterday afternoon a person was hit by a train between Surbiton and Wimbledon, with it causing major disruption to travel until around 8.30pm.

In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track had to be switched off. The person was taken to hospital and is being treated for their injuries. The train line was cleared within 30 minutes.

Four people 'hit by car' with driver speeding off

On Sunday evening four people were rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in a hit and run. The incident occurred in Harringay with police rushing to Green Lanes after reports of a car hitting pedestrians.

Officers, paramedics, and the London Fire Brigade all attended and found six pedestrians were injured. Four were taken to hospital, while the other two were treated at the scene.
